Scouting towards 2018
On Saturday 5th February 2011 six members of
the District attended the North West GSL/DC Support
Day.
Zoe's review of the day is below.
In 2002 Scouting started on a programme of change to bring it
into the 21st century and encourage even more young
people to take part. This will reach its final stages in 2012
and at the GSL conference we were given the opportunity to
contribute towards the next chapter in our history, Vision
2018.
The day began with an overview by the UK Chief
Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt and we were then split into
discussion groups to work out where we would like to see Scouting
going in the years leading up to 2018. It was certainly nice
to know that the same problems are experienced by many other groups
and we seemed united in the changes that need to be made to keep
Scouting moving forwards. The thread running throughout is
that Scouting will listen to its younger members and incorporate
their views to make the experience what they want it to be.
The Gilwell team then took the floor to answer all of our
questions which were on a wide range of topics, ranging from faith
in Scouting to the difficulty of finding things on the Scoutbase
website! Don't worry; we are assured that this is a problem
that will soon be sorted…..
After a good lunch the afternoon sessions were dedicated
to workshops so that we could all brush up on our GSL or DC
skills. As a novice much was new to me but the workshop
leaders all knew their stuff and I came away feeling sure that I
can handle anything Scouting has to throw at me. And
according to those in the know things are going to keep on getting
better for all of us!
Please keep your eye out for more information
that will be coming your way very soon.
