About us

Wigan and District is one of 8 Scout Districts in Greater Manchester West Scout County.

Our District has 18 Scout Groups that cover; Abram, Ashton, Billinge, Golborne, Hindley, Ince, Pemberton, Orrell, Shevington, Standish, Wigan and Winstanley. There are also 7 Explorer Scout Units and a Young Leader Unit across the District that provides Scouting for those who are in the 14 to 18 years age range.

Each week over 1000 young people aged 4 – 18 enjoy a hugely enjoyable and active programme at one of the 18 groups across the District.

As well as the weekly meetings groups take part in a number of fun and exciting events. Recent events have included, archery, camping, climbing, crafts, hill walking, canoeing, paintballing, zip wires, go karting – in fact you name it and we’ve probably done it.

Scouting is open to everyone: we welcome new members from the age of 4, with no upper age limit for our adult volunteers. Scouting is open to both boys and girls and it makes no difference what background you come from, what language you speak, or what religion you are – within Scouting there is a place for everyone.

This website contains lots of useful information for both members and potential members so please browse the site. If you have any specific queries you can get in touch with us via enquiries@wiganscouts.org.uk .

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
