New District Explorer Unit

Date: 29th Dec 2023 Author: Jeff Picton

Following Covid it has taken sometime to re-energise the District Explorer provision.

The established units at Ashton, Shevington, Hindley, Abram and Golborne managed to continue and in some cases have grown.

Sadly some units did not make it through and have since closed. These were Bispham, Pie Eaters, Brew Crew and Standish.

To cover the area left by these closures a new single unit, initially called Wigan Central, has been set up at the District HQ with its first meetings in November 2023.

The vision is to have a unit that welcomes explorers from all groups and provide not only the opportunity to achieve the Platinum and Diamond CSA but also the DofE awards and Young Leader Award.

The unit welcomes all 14 to 17 year olds with or without scouting experience. (Go to Join- Explorers – Join Now for enquiries at any unit)

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
