Steve Backshall Pays 100 GMW Cubs a visit

April 30th saw Steve Backshall officially launch our #Cubs100 birthday celebrations amongst 100 very excited Cubs from across GMW.

Arriving at Middlewood Scout Camp by helicopter, naturalist, writer, presenter of CBBC’s Deadly 60 and the UK’s Scout Association Ambassador for Cub Scouting Steve (pictured right above) was joined by Olympic Rower and Gold Medallist, Helen Glover (centre) and former Scotland Rugby Union International, Thom Evans (left).

As the trio arrived the Cubs were enjoying some of the great activities put on by the Goodwood team.

As Steve, Helen and Thom arrived on the Cub Field they all took time to sign neckers and talk to our excited Cubs and their parents about how great it is to be a Cub Scout, to thank all the volunteer leaders and helpers which make it possible for Cubs to enjoy every day adventure and to open up to Parents about how we could do so much more with just a little bit more help

After shooting some bows and arrows with a couple of Cub Scouts it was time for Steve, Helen and Thom to head off to their next event, but they left our Cub Scouts feeling excited about the year ahead, our Leaders proud of what they do week in week out and hopefully our Parents inspired to do a bit when they can.
It was a great launch for our Centenary of Cub Scouting in GMW and we hope you’re all looking forward to joining us at your Birthday Bash to celebrate #Cubs100 in July.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
